 Today’s Reading:

Luke 18:15-17

“But Jesus called them to Him and said, permit little children to come to Me and do not forbid them for of such is the kingdom of God.” (Luke 18:16)

While I was growing up in the church, there were several arms or ministries. Some of them were for the youth, men, women, and singles among other ministries but the least focused ministry was the ministry of children or ministering to children. Some people believe that children are too insignificant to get the attention of the whole church. Even in some churches, budgetary allocation to children is relatively small compared to administration, entertainment, welfare, etc. Any church that does not take children’s ministry seriously is playing with its future. Children are the seed of the church. They are the foundation and if the foundation is destroyed, what can the righteous do? This ministry must take a pivotal place in the heart of every well-meaning church or denomination.

How do we minister to them?

  • Church must see them as a ministry

  • Train their teachers regularly

  • Draw up a curriculum for them

  • Budgetary allocation must be robust

  • Get gadgets for them like a TV, video player, sound system, drum set, Pulpit, keyboard, etc.

  • Involve them in church service by allowing them to preach at least twice a month.

  • Select leaders or workers like Pastors, Usher, Treasurer, etc. from them. By doing this, we are preparing them for leadership.

  • Involve them in the adult church at least once or twice a year by allowing them to showcase their talents and what they have learnt in their church.

We should not be like the disciples who were ignorant of the ministry to children. They rebuked and rejected children, but Jesus accepted them and said whoever will not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will not enter it.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayer:

  1. Lord, raise builders of children in the church in Jesus’ name.

  2. Give our church leaders a burden for children in Jesus’ name.

  3. May the devil not catch them young in Jesus’ name.

  4. Give the church men and women who are passionate about raising missionaries among children in Jesus’ name.

  5. Strengthen all children-workers who have been labouring among them, in Jesus’ name.
