Today’s Readings:

Wisdom 6:1-11

Psalm 82:3-4,6-7

Luke 17:11-19

Task for the Day:

Type “Thank You Jesus” and share on your social media spaces.

I grew up in a home (much like most people I know) where you thank your parents and everyone around you after a meal. You thank your parents for providing the food. You thank everyone else for sharing with you. And each time, my parents will say, “Thank God”. This is their way of referring every thanks to God who is the real Provider of life and every good thing. This has since registered in my mind that God is the Provider of all we have and we are dispensers of God’s gifts. God deserves our thanks. Not that He needs it. He deserves it so that we are always connected to Him by our display of faith.

We see an epic example of a display of faith in the one leper out of ten who came back to thank Jesus for his healing. He displayed faith in his gratitude by taking five essential steps:

  • He Returned (Remembrance)

  • He Glorified God (Worship)

  • He did so in a loud voice (Testimony)

  • He fell at the feet of Jesus (Adoration)

  • And thanked Him (Thanksgiving).

This is the model of Christian gratitude. It is also the model of our relationship with one another. We ought to be grateful people, reaching out to family and friends to see how they are doing and to be of assistance where possible. When we only call people when we need their help and never show up at other times, we leave them feeling used and they are never able to relate with us properly.

Here are a few tips to help you stay grateful each day:

  • Start each day with a simple prayer of Thanksgiving, “Thank You Lord for this new day”.

  • Say the grace before and after every meal.

  • Send a thank you note to everyone who offers you a gift or a favour.

  • Call to check on friends, clients and family members from time to time.

  • Call to apologise for any wrong you may have done or harm you may have unknowingly caused.

  • Share your testimonies of God’s goodness to you with others.

  • Make it to church fellowship early whenever you attend, as a sign of your gratitude and seriousness.

  • Celebrate the achievements of others and correct their flaws privately.

May God grant you more reasons to be grateful each day, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer:

  1. Heavenly Father, our thanksgiving adds nothing to Your greatness. Rather it profits us for eternal life.

  2. Thank you for Your super-abundant mercies. Without You, I am nothing but with You, I have every reason to be grateful.

  3. I thank You again for all that You have done and all that I am hopeful for through Christ our Lord. Amen.
