The biggest crisis in today’s practice of the Christian faith is a lack of purpose. Purpose is your reason for doing something. We acquire education because we want to be financially free. We get married to have a life companion. We have children so that someone carries on our name and legacy. These are forms of purpose. But merely living for an earthly purpose is not good enough. It is a waste to acquire fame, fortune, friends and favours and in the end lose your soul (Mark 8:36 and Matthew 16:26). We need a deeper purpose than whatever earthly life has to offer.
Why?
Our deepest hunger is to fulfil God’s call on our lives. God is our Maker, and He made us to fulfil a specific purpose—to know, love, and serve Him (and our neighbour) and be with Him in heaven for all eternity. Knowing God breeds acceptance. Loving God breeds trust. Serving God gives meaning, and eternity is proof that we have an eternal soul. When and where do we exercise our
Purpose?
Our entire life on earth is the span of our purposefulness. The places and situations we find ourselves, the people and encounters we have, all set the stage for how we ought to relate to others and be affected by them. Remember the golden Christian rule: Love God above everything else and love your neighbour the same way you love yourself (Matthew 22:36-40). If you love God, you will discover how to love yourself. And if you love yourself, you will treat people well. God places people in our path, and we ought to treat them the way we wish to be treated. People may be friendly to you, but pray and call no one your friend unless they mean well for you, they help you achieve your God-given purpose, and they are helping you make heaven. How do you live out your purpose? Have the consciousness first that you are here on earth for a limited time. Every passing moment adds to your purpose or detracts from it. Know what you are good at. Find a place to volunteer your time and skills. Be open to learn from others. Lift others as you go along and never burden anyone with a load that even you cannot lift. But human strength is never enough.
Call on the Holy Spirit whom Jesus promises us. We celebrate His coming at Pentecost, but He is present to anyone who desires Him from the depths of their heart. Call on the Holy Spirit each day (“Come Holy Spirit, fill the heart of the faithful…”). Read Scriptures daily and hear the Holy Spirit speak to you. Pray for a fresh outpouring of the gifts of the Spirit (Wisdom, Knowledge, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Piety and the Fear of the Lord) so that you can withstand the Devil’s attacks and be victorious in all you do. Remain in a prayerful mood all day long and the peace of Christ will remain with you always.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”
If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully seek out a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor, or priest.
Prayer:
Eternal Father, let your wise words find a home in my heart.
Help me to live purposefully today.
Let the peace which Christ has promised fill my heart and heal my wounds.
May the unction of the Holy Spirit seal me with your gifts and cause me to bear fruits that endure forever. Amen.
Eternal Father, help me to know, love and serve You.
May the Holy Spirit reveal your love and presence to me.
May the peace of Christ fill my heart always. Amen.
