LET YOUR ROOTS GO DEEP DOWN IN JESUS CHRIST

Updated: Jan 2, 2022

Today’s Reading:

Colossians 2:6-15

“And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. 7)Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. 8)Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world rather than from Christ. 9)For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. 10)So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority. 11)When you came to Christ, you were circumcised, but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision – the cutting away of your sinful nature. 12)For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him, you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. 13)You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins 14)He cancelled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. 15)In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.”

(Colossians 2:6-15, NLT)

Our Christian life is like an organism, which needs to be nourished so that it grows healthy in Christ, physically and spiritually. It is about maturity and longevity in Christ. It is the outpouring of the work of God within us as the Holy Spirit lives in us and gives us the ability. Also, by the level of our daily trust and reliance on the Holy Spirit even, when we fall and ask for forgiveness, and He shows mercy on us, and we are back on our feet. By this, we walk in faith (vv. 6-7).

How to grow in our Christian life:

1) First, you give, surrender your life to our Lord Jesus Christ for renewal of your mind, and the Holy Spirit of the Lord will take control of your body, soul, and spirit.

2) As our Saviour and Lord, you must continue to follow Jesus Christ like the root of a tree planted by the river, you must let your roots grow down in Him for nourishment. By so doing, your faith will be nourished and grow strong in His truth, and you will overflow with thankfulness.

3) The Scripture is the fertile soil of the Truth. It is our offensive and defensive against the onslaught of the enemy. You must be grounded and rooted in the Truth in the Word of God, thereby getting a strong grasp of the Word.

4) The Bible must be read and taught in your ears (Rom. 10:17)

5) You must personally read, study, memorise and meditate upon the word of God. This involves turning the Word over in your mind, and the result is that you will be able to apply insight to some of your decisions, and you will be able to build up resistance to temptations. This will make you be mature and establish your faith in Him who loved us and died for our sins.

Prayer:

  1. Father, thank you for making me complete in my union with my Redeemer, Jesus Christ, in Jesus name.

  2. Father, create in me a pure heart, renew a right, humble, and teachable spirit within me, in Jesus name.

  3. My Father, I ask that day by day, You open my eyes to see You more clearly; to love You more dearly; and to follow you more nearly, in Jesus name.

  4. Father, visit every Christian home with your mercy, love, and healing, in Jesus name.

  5. Father, uproot everything You have not planted in Your Church, and revive Your Pentecostal fire, in Jesus name.

  6. Creator of heaven and earth, You are in control of the universe. In the chaotic condition of the world, especially our nation, encourage and strengthen Your people; and increase Your kingdom, in Jesus name.
