1 Thessalonians 4:9-11
Psalm 98:1,7-9
Matthew 25:14-30

You will never know the great things you are capable of, unless you try. In today’s Gospel, the spotlight falls on the servant entrusted with a single talent. He chose to bury it in the ground. What were his reasons? His decision was driven by laziness and fear. He saw his master as harsh and unforgiving, and so he refused to take any risk. Rather than put the gift to use, he hid it, thinking that returning it untouched would be the safest option. Fear paralysed him: it robbed him of the freedom to act, to take risks, invest, to try. The other two servants clearly saw their master differently. They understood that he valued their effort as much as the outcome; he wanted them to use what had been entrusted to them and not simply hand it back.
God has loaded you with gifts and graces, and He wants us to put them at the service of others. Yet fear (fear of God’s judgement, fear of others’ opinions, fear of failure) can still freeze us into inaction. The third servant shows us the tragedy of letting fear dictate our response to God’s trust. As Mother Teresa once said, God does not ask us to be successful, only faithful. If we truly believe in the unconditional love of the One who gives us every good gift, we will find the courage to act, without being paralysed by the question of success or failure.
Please Remember:
God’s kingdom is found wherever His subjects keep his commands and carry out His will.
God’s will is that we use His graces and gifts to better our world and win our salvation.
God rules us with love, not fear. He wants us to serve Him in love, not in fear.
God is not wicked for giving you one gift. Your gift is a seed which will yield a large harvest if you use it.
We are the beneficiaries of our goodness. We distrust God because we erroneously think that our goodness benefits Him.
Your faith in God is not only seen in how much you pray; it should be evident in how you use your gifts to serve others and make the world a better and more beautiful place to live in.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”
If you said the prayer, Congratulations! You are welcome to the body of Christ. Prayerfully seek out a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor, or priest.
Prayer:
Eternal Father, thank you for counting me worthy to be the custodian of your blessings. Preserve me from anxiety, fear, low self-esteem and laziness.
May my every waking moment be invested in deepening my relationship with you and in serving my neighbour for your glory. Amen.
May the gracious and eternal God bless you with the strength to put to good use the gifts you have received, to be productive in your love for God and your neighbour, and to make God known and loved always. Amen.
