Today’s Reading:
John 10:1-10 (9)
"I am the door! If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pastures." (v. 9 NKJV)
In our Christian journey, the closer we are to the Great Shepherd, the farther from wolves and wolves in sheep clothing. The concept of shepherd here is of a royal caretaker of God's people.
The psalmist called God the Shepherd of Israel (Ps. 80:1; 23:1; Isa. 40:10; Ezek. 34:11). God gave enormous responsibilities to the leaders of Israel which they failed to respect. They led the people astray from the true knowledge and kingdom of Jesus (9:34-41). God renounced them and promised to provide the true Shepherd in the person of the Messiah (Ezek. 34:23).
This gate is the only way to our salvation, and inside, there is safety. We are able to go in and out and find pastures - all our needs.
Jesus is the sole means to approach God the Father and partake of God's promised salvation. He is the only way to being saved from sin and hell and receiving eternal life. He is the only true source for our knowledge of God and the only basis for spiritual security. What did he do? He places himself between us and our enemy, the devil to protect us from spiritual harm.
