IS BEING GOOD THE KEY TO HEAVEN

Today’s Reading:
Mark 10:18

“Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.”
It is very easy to think we deserve salvation. After all, I try to be good; I do not steal, I do not cheat, I do not lust after anything or anyone. I just live a peaceful life and love Jesus. I deserve to go to Heaven after all I have been through on this Earth, you might think. God has to let me in, right? He must be a wicked God not to accept me into Heaven - after all, I am good.
Remember Mark 10:18? Yes, the passage that reminds us that we are not good - we are incapable of being good; at least not by God's standard. Salvation into Heaven is not earned; it is a gift. Although it is a gift freely given to us, it was obtained at a cost - a huge one at that. If Jesus could correct that man (in Mark 10:18) to teach us that even He (Jesus), as a man, is not good, what makes us think we deserve anything? Jesus is the one who makes us clean (good) in the eyes of God the Father. He has redeemed us from the grip of death and hell by His blood - He was the sacrificial lamb.
Hebrews 11:6 tells us that "it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him." But James 2:14-26 also tells us that, “Faith without works is dead also." What this tells us is that if you believe in Jesus and everything He came to do and everything he spoke about, that is faith. You then need to act on that faith and seek to build a relationship with him whom you say you believe and is your Father. Only then can you partake in the benefits (that have been hard fought for) of what comes with redemption.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”
If you said the prayer, Congratulations! You are welcome to the body of Christ. Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.
Prayer:
Father, help me to understand the message of the Gospel (the Good News), in Jesus’ name.
Lord, help me to understand that I am undeserving of Your grace, but You have made it possible at the cost of Your life on the cross.
You are the reason I deserve grace, and I am a beneficiary of Your favour. Thank you, Lord.
