Today’s Readings:

Jeremiah 11:18-20

Psalm 7:2-3,9-12

John 7:40-52

My life changed when I discovered the following things about Jesus:

  • He is not just what the Scriptures say about Him. Yes, Scriptures speak of a Messiah who is coming to save the world and grant us freedom from sin, Satan and eternal death. He is much more than that.

  • He is so personal that you can speak to Him anytime, anywhere. You can call on Him, and you can always count on Him to show up for you.

  • He knows exactly what you are going through. He knows what you are experiencing at this very moment; He is that powerful and present. And He wants to carry your burden with you (Matthew 11:28,29). He wants you to see that your burdens and difficulties are not meant to crush you. They serve to purify and fortify you into the best version of God’s image you can become.

  • He is present with you at every moment of the day. When you experience moments of joy, when you feel all alone, when you are sad, when you are happy or take ill, when you recover, when you lie down or wake up, He is there with you. All you need to do is call on Him and acknowledge His presence (Psalm 50:15 “Call on Me in a day of trouble; I will rescue you, and you will honour Me”).

  • God does not fit into the boxes we create for Him. He is not judgmental of all that we do. You don’t have to dress up before you come to Him. He wants you to come in the messy and unmade-up version of yourself. Why? Because he is interested in saving your soul. He wants you to realise the true value you possess. It is your soul that the devil wants to ruin for all eternity.

  • He is present in ways that only the humble can access. The scribes and Pharisees could have sworn that Jesus is not a prophet, He is not God, because He comes from a town called Nazareth in Galilee and prophets do not come from Galilee (John 7:52). Jesus came, lived among us, gave profound teachings and then rose from the dead after suffering and dying. What is more powerful than this? As unpredictable as His coming was, it became the source of truth and life for all of us who believe in Him.

  •  Often, we cut ourselves off from God because of the things we seek, and we perceive that some other persons will provide us with the lifestyle we dream of. But we shoot ourselves in the foot when we fail to see that there is nothing good which does not have God for its origin. If it adds to your ultimate good, God will give it to you. Your ultimate good should be your utmost concern. It profits you nothing to gain this world and lose your soul (Mark 8:36).

  • Pray well. Ask Jesus, “What do you want me to do?” This prayer leads us to our purpose and makes our vision clearer. Without a clear vision, one would live a purposeless life. A life of purpose is to do all things for the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31).

TASK: Prayerfully read and meditate on Psalm 50.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! You are welcome to the body of Christ. Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayer:

  1. Lord Jesus, what do you want from me? What do you expect of me? How can I become more of who you have created me to be? How can I live out my life in contentment, peace and serenity, knowing that I am doing the will of the Eternal Father? Help me know Your will and give me the courage and strength to pursue it all the days of my life. Amen.

  2. Eternal Father, reveal Yourself to me. Cleanse my mind, body and soul with Your grace. I want to know you more and more each day. Let my life bear testimony to my relationship with You, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
