IF IT HAD NOT BEEN THE LORD

Today’s Reading:

Psalm 124

“if it had not been the Lord who was on our side when men rose up against us, then they would have swallowed us up quickly.” (Psalm 124:2)

A true-life story of a retired civil servant who came to Lagos from Ile-Ife (an ancient city in Osun State, Nigeria) to process his pension and gratuity documents boarded a public transport of eighteen passengers at Oshodi park. The journey started on a good note and they were approaching Ibadan on the popular Lagos-Ibadan express way. Suddenly the bus pulled off the highway into an untarred road. Before the passengers could say Jack Robinson all the passengers were asked to come down from the bus forcefully in the face of guns and other deadly weapons. They marched all of them into a thick forest and were asked to remove their clothes leaving them with their undies both male and female. The man who was recounting his ordeal said from the first person on the line he saw how the ritualist massacred people for the first time in his life, he had never witnessed such. Before they got to him, he said he started praying and mumbled some bible passages trembling and sweating profusely. When it was about three people before him, one of the men that perpetrated that evil just dragged him out of the line as if he wanted to kill him before his turn told him secretly to run for his dear life. He showed him a narrow way to the nearby village and told him not to look back. He ran and walked miles before he could see someone to help him.

The scenario above is nothing but God at work. If it had not been the LORD who was on his side when men rose up against him, he would have been swallowed up quickly. Life is full of several and uncountable challenges that if not for divine intervention no one could escape. Have you been in a terrible situation before that you thought you would die but God rescued you? Has there been a time that doctor’s verdict was death but here you are still hale and hearty? What a faithful God we serve. Your present situation is not hopeless if God could deliver men like Daniel in the lion’s den, Joseph from his brother, he can do the same. Trust him for deliverance. And if God has done it for you return all glory to him and share your testimony to strengthen those passing through the same challenges. Sing this song with me: Because He lives, I can face tomorrow. Because I know, He owns my future and life is what a living just because He lives.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and report to the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayer:

  1. Father I thank you because you are always at work in my life

  2. Arise in your power Lord and surmount every difficult problem in my life in Jesus’ name

  3. Let my enemies scatter and be disgraced in Jesus’ name
