Today’s Reading:

Psalm 119:137-144; Jeremiah 33:14-26; 2 Corinthians 1:1-11

The earth and everything there in has been created by God for a purpose and for His Glory. It is very important for us to understand that the laws of God were made to enable us walk in rightness of life, heart and the fulfilment of our God’s given purpose. Hence everything we do must centre on glorifying His name.

David in Psalms 199:137-144 was describing how the zeal of the Lord consumed him to the extent that when anguish and troubles came, the commandments of the Lord gave him Joy. It was just that the zeal of the Lord that consumed him made him immune to the adverse conditions of the world around him. Keeping to God’s precepts in righteousness has its own way of shielding us from the vile and wickedness of this world, both on earth and beyond. Paul and his colleagues were faced with a peril in Asia but as they relied not on themselves but God, they were delivered.

The judgement of God will continue to stand still, when his righteousness is seen in our lives. We will continue to enjoy the goodness of the Lord both on earth and in heaven (Jeremiah 33:14-26). He has given out His commandments and promises to us all, carrying out his commandments is an evidence of our righteousness and there is always the hope of goodness for the righteous ones who hold fast to God’s direction and leading.

Benefits of righteous living:

  1. The evils, mockery, sicknesses of the world can no longer get to us because the commandments of the Lord is our delight and we understand that everything in the world is only temporary (2 Cor 4:18).

  2. The zeal of the Lord gives fulfilment, accomplishment and the inner peace which our souls desire here on earth.

  3. Salvation from the peril of this world

  4. Renewal of our mind leads to renewal and freshness of our lives which is a recipe for healthy living (Roman 12:22)

  5. The word of God separates us from the rest of the world as we influence the world positively

  6. We are exalted above the things that beset other people around us because we know somethings they don’t know (Proverb 14:34).

Always Remember that:

  • living recklessly will always drag believers backward and not give us a solid ground to stand on earth (1 Peter 2:11).

  • Sin is always a reproach to any people on earth (Proverb 14:34)

  • After death, he will also await the disobedient (Romans 6:23).
