Today’s Reading:
EXODUS 14:5-18
“Jehovah will fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.” (v. 14 )
We cannot fault their fear. They have every right to be dreadful in the sight of a gruesome death approaching very fast on six hundred hurriedly decorated Egyptian chariots carrying captains of death. They look behind and saw the last minutes glowering at them. “We are here to die in this open wilderness, aren’t we”? they puzzled.
Men usually forget to consider what God is doing in times of trouble. Even men of faith lose it in tough and close calls of trouble. The escaping Israelites also stopped the song of victory as they made their way out of slavery in Egypt when they looked behind and realized their slave masters are after them for a recapture. Then they looked around to find Moses, who at the time in their opinion is a failing saviour. “There is no burial site in Egypt anymore, so you brought us here to die in the open wilderness where birds and beast can feast on our corpses” they queried him hurriedly. “Hold on, and be still” he persuaded, looking away from the fearful eyes of the people to the Lord who alone can do the unimaginable, and didn’t Jehovah says, “I got even this under control?” We cannot blame them nor their fear, we blame them for looking over their neck to their chasing enemies who are fast catching up, and around to Moses to whom they can vent their last anger and displeasure, instead of looking up to God who could save them once more.
Troubling time will make your mind skip faster than you are prepared for, but do not let it take your eyes of faith and trust off the God who can save you. See the Lord readily fighting your battle when you are faced with any. Thus, you shall hold your peace. God is aware of your difficult situation, and He’s in action to save you, only you must look up to Him and Hold your peace. If you believe, the trouble you see today, you shall see no more in Jesus name.
