Today’s Reading:
2 Samuel 5: 1-10 (NKJV)
“Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and spoke, saying, “Indeed we are your bone and your flesh. Also, in time past, when Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them in; and the LORD said to you, you shall shepherd My people Israel, and be ruler over Israel.” Therefore, all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the LORD. And they anointed David king of Israel. David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years. In Hebron, he reigned over Judah for seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem, he reigned for thirty-three years over all of Israel and Judah. And the king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, who spoke to David, saying, “You shall not come in here; but the blind and the lame will repel you,” thinking, “David cannot come in here.” Nevertheless, David took the stronghold of Zion (that is, the City of David). Now David said on that day, “Whoever climbs up by way of the water shaft and defeats the Jebusites (the lame and the blind, who are hated by David’s soul), he shall be chief and captain.” Therefore, they say, “The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.” Then David dwelt in the stronghold and called it the City of David. And David built all around from the Millo and inward. So, David went on and became great, and the LORD God of hosts was with him. (2Samuel 5:1-10 NKJV)
According to our bible passage, David was anointed king a third time. God had promised David the throne after the kingdom was taken from Saul; “But now your kingdom shall not continue. The LORD has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the LORD has commanded him to be commander over His people because you have not kept what the LORD commanded you.” (1 Samuel 13:14). However, he waited for the physical manifestation of that promise.
His promotion was gradual but sure. He did not get on the throne immediately after he was anointed by Prophet Samuel probably that his faith might be tried, and also to gain experience. David had three stages of movement:
1 Samuel 16:13 - was anointed to become king of Israel, in the place of King Saul who had been rejected by God.
2 Samuel 2:4 - was anointed to be king of Judah by the men of Judah.
2 Samuel 5:3 - was anointed to be accepted as king over Israel by the elders of Israel.
David had to undergo drilling and exercises to be fully trained and strategically fit for the position of the king. He fought several “battles” along the way to “getting” the promise, but he did not relent. He knew that God was with him because he was a beloved of God, “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us” (Romans 8:37). He had to be approved by both God and men.
Our reference bible passage; 2 Samuel 5:1-10 is a crucial point of David’s story. God made a promise to him in his youth and he got everything God promised him before he finished his race. Why? He was a man after God’s heart. Has God made specific promises to you? “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.” (2 Corinthians 1:20). Do not give up on Him. “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” (Numbers 23: 19). Do not allow the challenges along the way of your enthronement to be a reality. The PROMISE is the reality. You shall be enthroned. His promise never fails.
However, if you are not a beloved of God, the fulfilment of the promise can be missed. If you do not want to miss sitting on your throne of honour; fulfilling your destiny, then do something about it. Have you surrendered your life to Jesus? If you are not born again, it is not too late to surrender your life to Jesus. You can do it right now. All you need to do is confess your sins, ask for His forgiveness, invite Him into your life, and ask Him to be in charge. He will save you and take over the control of your life. He will carry your problems, fight your battles, and do what He did for David for you also. Try Him, He is a promise keeper.
Hallelujah!
