Today’s Readings:

Ezekiel 47:1-9,12

Psalm 46:2-3,5-6,8-9

John 5:1-3,5-16

Here are some things to bear in mind as you seek healing this month:

  • Jesus is the answer.

  • Stop complaining and speak to Jesus.

  • Through the power of the Holy Spirit, healing has been released into the whole world.

  • You have access to this healing through your baptism. And you will continue to access it by your continued renewal of your baptismal promises (rejection of sin, receiving God and walking in the light of grace).

  • Never return to sin: “See you are well. Sin no more so that nothing worse befalls you” (John 5:15).

  • Identify your triggers and occasions of sin and addictions.

  • Surround yourself with people who help you stay on the path of righteousness.

  • Walk and live one day at a time (start small and grow).

  • Nourish and heal others by serving them with your gifts.

  • Heaven is the goal. Heaven begins here on earth if you stay connected to Christ every day of your life.

The beginning of a new month holds a lot of promises, of goodness and the great things that will happen. The month of May is no different. Not because it is May or a new month, but because in our minds, we love to mark days and weeks and months. And that is okay. So, this month begins with an interesting set of Scripture passages for you to consider. “Water” and “healing” feature in our readings today. In the first reading, Ezekiel receives a vision of water flowing out of the temple. We are told that he waded in this water, and it swelled into a river impossible to cross. It flowed everywhere, bringing nourishment and healing to all that it touches. That water is a symbol of the presence of the Holy Spirit, which sanctifies everyone and everything. The Psalmist refers to this same water as the presence of the Holy Spirit in God’s temple, a reference to every person who receives God into their lives; they have God for their help, and they shall never be shaken.

Jesus heals a man who had been ill for 38 long years. Some of us have not lived up to 38 years. The illness has affected his faith; he has despaired of any hope of healing. But along comes Jesus, who asks him, “Do you want to be healed?” Simple question, a yes or no answer would do. But the man starts complaining. Jesus says to him, “Rise, take up your pallet and walk”. Jesus’ words occasion the man’s healing. This is possible because Jesus is the new water which heals. Jesus says, “Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them” (John 7:38). This is the presence of the Holy Spirit in all who follow Jesus. Will you allow the Spirit to heal you?

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer out. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

Suppose you said the prayer, Congratulations! You are welcome to the body of Christ. Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayer:

  1. Lord, bless and keep me this month as I take the necessary steps to live a holy life, flee the occasions of sin, heal from every hurt and trauma, and become beacons of hope and healing for others. Help them to steadily walk on the path of grace and enjoy Your favour through Christ our Lord. Amen.

  2. Your healing is here. Through the power flowing from the words of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit, you are healed of every complaint, you are set free from every slavery and bondage. You are free in Jesus' name. Amen. A blessed new month to you.
