Acts 16:22-34

Psalm 138:1-3,7-8

John 16:5-11

Have you ever trusted anyone so much that they betrayed your trust? How did it make you feel? It can be a very difficult place to be in. Because of that, we tend to close in on ourselves; to distrust anyone or anything that suggests that previous encounter or recalls that trauma. One thing that is certain to happen is that we cannot remain closed up forever —we will lose out on other opportunities for joy and peace and occasions to meet the right set of people.

There is beauty in opening yourself up to what God can do with you. The person of Lydia is held up to us today as a model of openness to God’s word and becoming a witness to Christ. We are told that when Paul preached to some women in Macedonia, the Lord opened Lydia’s heart to listen to him. To listen and accept the words of others, you have to trust them. Without trust, there is no access, no growth or deepening of understanding. May God grant you the grace to hear His voice and trust in Him.

What are the beautiful things that can result from granting God access to your heart?

  • Blessings flow into your life.

  • You become humble and receptive to divine inspiration (Pride closes up our hearts).

  • You are purged of your sins (especially those you find difficult to give up).

  • It breaks Satan’s hold on you (sin is the instrument that the evil one uses to hold us down).

  • Trust is built (because we know that God always keeps His promises).

  • We are motivated to do good for others (we can pay God’s goodness forward).

  • It encourages us to enter into dialogue with God (through prayer and reading the Scriptures).

  • Our faith becomes rock-solid in the face of pain and misfortune.

  • You are filled with divine consolation in moments of pain, loneliness, fear and anxiety.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and report to the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayer:

  1. May the indwelling of the Holy Spirit dispel fear and every evil from your life.

  2. May the spirit of truth uproot the lies that the Devil has sown in your heart and deliver you.

  3. May the light of God’s grace open up those closed areas of your life, heal every wound and strengthen you to bear witness to His goodness and mercies in your life in Jesus’ name. Amen.

  4.  “Let me hear what God the Lord will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his saints; but let them not turn back to folly“ (Psalm 85:8).

  5. May God plant your feet securely on the foundation of faith, favour and fortune this week and always in Jesus' name. Amen.

  6. May the grace of God lead you today, steer you away from sin and evil, set you firmly on the rock of His protection and favour and grant you all your good heart desires through Christ our Lord. Amen.

  7. God will bless and prosper you. He will be your source of inspiration and guidance. He will take away every evil and destructive element from you. You shall be a force to reckon with. Your feet shall be securely planted on righteousness, peace and prosperity in Jesus' name. Amen.

  8. A blessed morning to you. May the radiance of God's grace fill your heart with joy. May His providence cater to your needs and send help from far and near and may the inspiration of the Holy Spirit lead you to truth and true freedom in Jesus' name. Amen.
