GOD SPEAKS PEACE UNTO HIS PEOPLE

Today’s Reading:

Psalm 85: 1-2, 8-13

“I will listen to what God the LORD says; he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants but let them not turn to folly.”                                            (Psalms 85:8, NIV)

The Church, in affliction and distress, is here, by direction from God, making her application to God. So ready is God to hear and answer the prayers of his people that by his spirit in the word, and in the heart, he directs their petitions and puts words into their mouths. The people of God, in a very low and weak condition, are here taught how to address themselves to God. That God had shown Himself propitious to their land, and had smiled upon it as his own. “That hast been favourable to thy land, as thine, with distinguishing favours.” (v. 1). He had rescued them out of the hands of their enemies and restored them to their liberty. The psalmist is seen aware of (v. 8), for he stands upon his watch-tower to hear what God will say unto him, as the prophet, I will hear what God the Lord will speak (Heb. 2:1, 2).

What it is that he promises himself from God, in answer to his prayers: He will speak peace to his people, and to his saints, sanctified by his grace and devoted to His glory; these may sometimes want peace when without are fighting and within are fears; but sooner or later, God will speak peace to them; if He does not command outward peace, yet He will suggest inward peace. A complaint to Christ of our danger, and the distress his Church is in, is enough to engage Him to awake and appear for us. They cried, Master, master, we perish! (Lk 8:24). The way to have our fears silenced is to bring them to Christ, and lay them before Him, and He will speak peace unto your situations.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud:

Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I believe and surrender to the lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteous. Thank You, Lord!  If you said the above short prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and report to the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayer:

  1. Almighty God, speak peace unto the conditions of this nation.

  2. Jesus, my going out and my coming in let there be peace in Jesus' Name.

  3. Lord Jesus, let my children experience your peace in all ramifications.

  4. Lord, let your Church experience your peace than ever before.

  5. Father, speak your peace into my family.
