Today’s Reading:
Ezekiel 11:14-25
“I, the Sovereign Lord will gather you back from the nations where you are scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel once again.” (v. 17)
God promised the Jewish exiles (captives) in Babylon that He would continue to be with them, even though they were not in Jerusalem.- Verse 16 NLT. The Jews were confused at this promise because they believed that God was present primarily in the Temple. However, God assured them that He would continue to be their God, regardless of where they are located or situated in the world. The most comforting words spoken by the Lord in this prophesy are found in Verses 16-21 where the Lord indicated that the Jews will be taken captives, but also preserved, regathered, given the land and converted upon their return from captivity.
God says that the Jews in captivity are the faithful ones and those in Jerusalem are the sinful and wicked ones. In other words, our external circumstances do not truly indicate our standing with God. Those who appear safe, secure and comfortable may be far from Him, while those going through hard and difficult times may be safely under God’s spiritual protection.
God will evaluate our lives by our faith and obedience. We can depend on God to keep us safe if we truly pledge ourselves to His care.
