Today’s Reading:

Psalm 16:1-11

Thou wilt show me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” (v.11)

The psalmist has sought refuge in Yahweh his sovereign Lord, and supreme welfare (v. 1-2); whose good pleasure is in His saints (v. 3). The apostates have many sorrows, and he keeps apart from them and their impious worship (v. 4). Yahweh is his portion and his inheritance in pleasant places (v. 5-6); he enjoys His counsel (v. 7) and continual helpful presence (v. 8); he is glad and secure (v. 9), confident that Yahweh will not abandon him in Sheol (v. 10), but will grant him life and joy forever in His presence (v.11)."

There are great benefits that come from spending time in God’s presence especially in in Psalm 16, which includes:

  1. There is safety in His presence (Psalm 16:1)

  2. Nothing good exists outside of God’s presence (Psalm 16:2)

  3. There is a joy that comes from being in the presence of God’s people (Psalm 16:3; Psalm 122:1)

  4. There are bad consequences that come from running away from God’s presence. (Psalm 16:4)

  5. There is security in God’s presence. (Psalm 16:5)

  6. There are boundary lines that are set in God’s presence and they are pleasing. (Psalm 16:6; Colossians 2:9-10).

  7. You can stay in God’s presence because He has given you His Counselor (Psalm 16:7; John 15:26).

  8. There is strength knowing that you are in His presence (Psalm 16:8; Hebrews 12:28).

  9. In God’s presence the heart is glad (Psalm 16:9)

  10. In God’s presence we are assured of eternal life (Psalm 16:10)

  11. In God’s presence his word comes alive (Psalm 16:11)

God’s presence is often manifested during a time of heightened worship. Other times His presence comes while we wait in quiet. Still other times require a sincere searching through fasting and prayer. What do you do when you don’t sense God’s presence in our life? You have to keep seeking His face. Jeremiah 33:3, Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’ Psalm 9:9-10, "The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You."

Psalm 118:19 Open for me the gates of righteousness; I will enter and give thanks to the LORD.

I suppose the promise that God has for you is that His presence is here. You are responsible for longing for the manifestation of it in your heart.

  1. O Lord, I long for your presence, in Jesus name.

  2. Father, I take refuge in you, keep me say in you, in Jesus name.

  3. I received fullness of joy because I am always in your presence, in Jesus name.

  4. O Lord, anything that will not make me to always be in your presence should be remove, in Jesus name.

  5. O Lord, do not forsake me, the Church and Nigeria, in Jesus name.
