GOD’S GREAT PROMISE

Today’s Reading:

Genesis 9:8-17

“I promise every living creature that the earth and those living on it will never again be destroyed by a flood.” (v. 11, CEV)

Noah has just succeeded in bringing every creature to a safe landing after the flood that destroyed the earth. There he was with the thought of what might happen next. Will God one day still destroy the world by a flood? But before he went far in his thought, the Lord spoke with him assuredly. One thing is evident here; God spoke about the future to Noah and that was enough to put his mind at rest. If God promises you, you can be sure He will fulfil it. One of the ways to live through life successfully as believers are the ability to trust God for the day that is ahead of you. Learn to hear what he has in mind so that you can be guided by faith on your journey and not by fear. Having God’s promise is the surest way to go through this world that is full of uncertainty.

God didn’t tell Noah about his promise alone, he gave him a symbol to confirm his word. “The rainbow that I have put in the sky will be my sign to you to every living creature on earth. It will remind you that I will keep my promise forever.” God is not only in the business of making promises, He is also delighted in watching it come to pass. Not to leave an iota of doubt in the mind of Noah, God went ahead to give a sign to this effect in order to aid his memory. Simply, the rainbow will remind him. Today, the rainbow still shows up but much more, God gives you His Holy Spirit today as a seal of his promise and as a reminder of all the promises that he has made unto you. The Holy Spirit helps you to behold the promise, pray the promise and believe the promise until it comes to fulfilment.

God will always keep his promise just as He told Noah, it is however your responsibility not to let go of those promises. Let them, like the amazing colour of the rainbow, be glued in your mind by constant remembrance by the Holy Spirit. Paul says, “All the promises in Christ are yea and Amen.” If God has said it surely, He will fulfil it.
