Today’s Reading:
Psalm 67:1-7
Then the earth shall yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us. God
shall bless us, and all the end of the earth shall fear him. (vv. 6-7)
In the passage read today, the Psalmist repeatedly asked people to praise God (verse 3 and 5), who allowed the earth to yield her increase. This is showing appreciation and gratitude to God Almighty who is the only source of increase that brings about blessing. The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it (Proverbs 10:22).
.
It is only this God’s blessing that can cause the land to yield its harvest (Psalm 67:6). There is no amount of mechanised approach and effort on the land or on our farm that can result in bountiful or abundant harvest if God withholds His blessing from our land. “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labour in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows; for so He gives His beloved sleep Psalm 127:1-2”. When God’s mercy, God’s blessing and God’s presence is made known, then His salvation will come upon the people and the land. “God be merciful to us and bless us, and cause His face to shine upon us, that Your way may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations Psalm 67:1-2” Our God is a merciful God, in His mercy He blesses us. His mercies never come to an end they are new every morning great is your faithfulness. In His mercy He saves, in His mercy He delivers and, in His mercy, He judges the people righteously.
The desire of God is for every believer to be a partaker of His blessing from above (3John1:2) that lasts long in someone’s hands, as blessings from human beings have expiry dates. For anyone to be a partaker of God’s blessing such a person must have given his or her life to Jesus Christ and be obedient to God. Disobedience to God’s definite and specific instruction will lead to curse instead of blessing (Gen 3:6-7, 24). Brothers and Sisters in the Lord, as we go on in the journey of life, let us daily seek God’s blessing upon every aspect of our lives. Surely God will bless us, and our land will yield its fruits but we should not allow sin to rob us of this blessing.
