Today’s Reading:
John 12:20-36
“Truly, truly I say unto you, except a grain of wheat falls onto the ground and dies, it remains alone. But if it dies, it brings forth much fruit (v. 24)
Death is an experience nobody prays for or wishes to have though the word death has both connotative and denotative meaning. But in verse 24 of the above passage the word of Jesus came powerfully. The emphasis on the word ‘truly’ is worth examining, each time Jesus uses the word truly it connotes beyond shadow of doubt, surely, certainly, unfailingly, unquestionably, without fail, nothing else but etc.
…except a grain of wheat falls onto the ground and dies…. What Jesus was saying in the passage is that death is inevitable for a seed who wants to be fruitful. Likewise, he was saying that without Him dying, His purpose on earth will be thwarted and meaningless. Without him dying, our salvation will be equal to zero and Christianity will be like other religion. It was His death and resurrection that made Christianity a way of life and not mere religion. The whole world wouldn’t have known him if not for his death.
Friends, you need to experience this death. That is the only way to fruitfulness. Until the old man dies in you, you can’t bring fruit (profit) for God’s kingdom. Any spiritual work done with canal nature may be appreciated by humanity, but it is not being credited by divinity. What aspect of your life needs to die?
Colossians 3:5 says therefore put to death your members that are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness which is idolatry. You need to put to death the old life of sin which is hindering you to do something significant for God. Don’t forget without death no fruitfulness as far as the Kingdom of God is concerned.
