FEAR OF GOD

Today’s Reading:

Psalm 128 (v.1)

Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in His ways.” (v. 1)

The word FEAR could be healthy or unhealthy. Healthy fear is one that God requires of us while unhealthy fear is that which God does not approve of. Examples include fear of death, of tomorrow, of any accident, of the devil, of demons, of witches and so on.

The healthy fear is to fear God. Fear of God is to hate evil, pride, arrogance, and evil ways (Proverbs 8:13). It is to shun and disdain sin, to embrace and live a holy life. Fear of God will make one know that God is present everywhere thereby one will live his or her life justly and uprightly.

Those who fear God are bound to gain a whole lot of things: Angels of God will encamp round about them (Psalm 34:7), the eye of the Lord is upon them (Psalm 33:18) and they will enjoy God’s mercy (Psalm 103:17). In Psalms 128, which is our focus, the blessings embedded in fearing the Lord are:

  1. It brings blessing (v. 1)

  2. You will eat the labour of your hands (v. 2a)

  3. You will be happy, and it shall be well with you (v. 2b)

  4. Your wife and children will be fruitful (v. 3)

  5. You will see the welfare of your household and country (v. 5)

  6. You will see generations (Children’s children) to come.

What an immeasurable blessing that awaits those who fear God. Do you fear God?

ALADE JAMES

Prayer:

  1. Oh Lord, instil your fear in my heart, in Jesus name.

  2. Every blessing in fearing God, I receive them all, in Jesus name.

  3. Every unhealthy fear in my life, disappear, in Jesus name.

  4. Father instil your fear in our leaders at all levels, especially political leaders, in Jesus name.

  5. Grant unto men who fear you the grace to remain steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in Christ, in Jesus name.
