There is an aspect of our lives that we often minimize to our detriment. And it is faithfulness to God.
Through faithfulness, we create a bond with God.
Faithfulness creates a protective shield around us.
We testify to who God is.
We also draw God’s blessings down on us through our steadfastness and obedience to His commandments.
In the beginning, most of us start well. This is due to a realisation that God is with us when no one else knows what we are about. So, we build from the ground up with our faith, our grit, intelligence, perseverance and all that God places at our disposal. At this point, it is clear that it is our relationship with God that is sustaining us, and God’s spirit prompts our actions. But somewhere along the line, distractions set in because of the little successes we record. Prayer becomes a burden, and we begin to think that we are the ones responsible for our success. This might have been the origin story of the two elders in the saga of Susannah.
The elders were bloated by their status, drunk with power, consumed with lust, driven by envy and falsely accused an innocent woman of adultery. They arrogated to themselves the power of life and death (a power reserved for God) because they could not have their way with Susannah. We know how the story ends. Daniel, filled with the Holy Spirit, made the elders contradict each other to their detriment and death. The elders came to a terrible end because they deserted the Holy Spirit, who had brought them to enviable heights of power and prestige. The same fate awaits those who forget God’s place in their lives.
So, how do we remain faithful in the face of temptation and the lure to evil?
Humility: Be open to learn and correcting your mistakes.
Walk in the Light: Let Jesus, the Light of the World, guide you by the power in His word (Psalm 119:105). When we turn away from Jesus, we stumble around in the dark.
Flee from the darkness of sin: do not entertain it in your heart, in the people you call friends or in the things you are chasing after.
Maximise your faith: Credit God always as the source of your life and achievements. Let others know who you believe in and how important God is to you.
Diligence: Do your work or your craft excellently well. No one should take the blame for your work.
Do the small things well: be truthful, be consistent, lift others, acknowledge the help that others have offered you and live as if today is all you have.
These are the fundamental principles which build us. Do not be carried away by the successes that you record. Do not be deluded by your achievements. Return all praise, thanks and glory to God who does great things through us. Let the Lord shepherd you. No evil will touch you so long as you remain under His protection. Resist the temptation to treat people badly. Goodness and mercy shall follow you all through life. Have a blessed working week.
JUDE-MARY OWOH
To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”
If you said the prayer, Congratulations! You are welcome to the body of Christ. Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.
Prayer:
May God grant you a blessed week, in good health of mind and body, shield you from every evil, be with you as you step out and return and show up mightily for you in every respect through Christ our Lord. Amen.
