Today’s Reading:
Genesis 37:12-21
“Come now therefore and let us kill him and cast him into some pit. And we will say some evil beast has devoured him. And we will see what will become of his dreams.” (Gen 37:20)
We face different battles in life and such battle comes in different sizes, at different junctions of life and from various quarters. The irony of life is that battles come from people we least expect. Close friends have been seen to be the source of their friend’s problem likewise among siblings. The case of Joseph was not different. He grew up in a polygamous home with several older brothers. Joseph as a teenager didn’t know how to keep some revelations about dreams to himself rather, he would voice it out. And this happened on one or two occasions. The problem his brothers were having with him was his dream. They knew that the only way to stop the fulfilment of his dream was to kill him. So they turned themselves to higher assassins. We can call them battles from the home. They planned it but by divine intervention, the plan was changed, and Joseph started his journey into fulfilling his dream. But what if they have succeeded in killing Joseph? Two things would have happened. One, Joseph’s dream would not have been fulfilled by him. His brothers might suffer later in life when they were supposed to receive help. But one thing is certain God’s purpose will be fulfilled no matter what happens; instead of him to change his plan, he would rather change man.
The message the Lord lays upon my heart is to warn for as many who are reading this devotional that you shouldn’t kill your Joseph. In this context, who is Joseph? Joseph is that sibling, friend, co-worker who is more endowed, graced, gifted or excels more than you do. It is that individual who is richer, connected and has more influence than you do. The person might even be younger to you in all things. Possibly, he is an apprentice under you or a spiritual son that you raised. He might even be your associate pastor who carries more grace and anointing than you. God asks me to tell you don’t kill your Joseph. We kill our Joseph by assassinating their character (libel or slander), lying against them, envying, backbiting, blocking their way, killing them or withdrawing some benefits meant for them. Things like these have happened among siblinsg and even in the household of God. Stop it now before God stops you. We must understand that not all of us will carry the same measure of grace and blessing. Some will be ahead of us and we must respect them. If we allow God to work in us, that Joseph will still be a blessing to us.
Thank God they didn’t kill their Joseph, at the end of the day he was sent ahead to deliver them. If you kill your Joseph you might suffer at a junction where you need your Joseph. Have you killed yours or you are in the process of doing so. Why not repent and humble yourself before the master so that he can do what he purposed to do with your own life. Tell him to search your heart and bring to the open every step you are taking to kill your Joseph.
JAMES ALADE
To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud: Father, thank you for Jesus Christ. Forgive my sins, take control of my heart and lead me in your righteous path by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Thank You Lord.”
If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and report to the resident reverend, pastor or priest.
Prayer:
Father, forgive me of all my sins.
Lord, search my heart, if there is any iniquity in me expose them and forgive me.
Whatever evil I have done to my Joseph, have mercy on me.
Empower and prepare my Joseph for the journey ahead in Jesus name.
May I not miss my Joseph on my way to destiny fulfilment in Jesus name.
