Today’s Reading:
Psalm 14
“The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. “ (v. 1)
David is telling the audience that it is foolish to not believe in God. The opening statement says: “The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God”. In the Bible, when someone is referred to as being “foolish”, it means the person does not regard God’s word. No man will say “there is no God” except he is so hardened and entrenched in sin that it has become his nature, and no one can call him to an account.
The sinner is willing to think that there is no God in order to please himself and continue in sin. This is why the sinner is referred to as a fool. The disease of sin has infected the whole race of mankind. Whatever is good in us is not of our own making, it is God’s work in us. We need to appreciate our need for God’s grace. We must not be carried away by the fact that we are referred to as “born again” Christians. We must not be satisfied with anything short of union with Christ and a new creation to holiness by His spirit.
The world is bad but the Messiah would come and change its character. There is a universal corruption. The second coming of Christ to finally do away with the dominion of sin and Satan will be the completion of our salvation.
