The difference between David and Saul, including every other person then, was courage. Though some may have faith in God to deliver them from the hands of the Philistine, especially Goliath, they lack the courage to face Goliath. One who will face Goliath needs both courage and faith. Courage is the ability to face fear, danger, or adversity—even when you're unsure of the outcome. It’s often rooted in inner strength and determination, and it doesn't necessarily require belief in something beyond yourself. Faith, on the other hand, is a strong belief or trust in something or someone, often without tangible proof. This could be faith in God. Courage is about doing something despite fear.

Faith is about believing despite doubt. Faith is trusting God to work on your behalf, while courage is bringing the hand of God down to work. Christians need both faith and courage to fight the battles of life. They are needed even in the business world, to take action even when all seems not to work. It’s called risk in the world of business. It is even risky not to take a risk, for life itself is a risk. Though any risk a child of God takes must be based on faith. And faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17). Goliath threatened a whole nation for forty days, morning and night (I Samuel 17:16). No man could face him. Even the strongest army in the camp of the Israelites couldn’t dare it; the king of Israel was paralysed at heart, and everyone was afraid. But this young man was courageous enough to declare in (verse 32): Let no man’s heart fail because of him (that is courage). The Lord who delivered me out of the paw of the lion and out of the paw of the bear, He will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine (verse 37) (That’s faith). David won the battle because he believed in God and himself. Though you believe in God, do you believe in yourself, that God can work signs and wonders through you? Until you believe in what God can do through you, you will always be defeated.

What or who is that Goliath challenging you and your God? Is it sickness, failure, debts, or delay? Rise today with that little grace you have and challenge the challengers, kill the killers before they kill you, and you will see victory coming your way. God is waiting for you to rise, for the battle has been won already. Hallelujah!

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”

If you said the prayer, Congratulations! You are welcome to the body of Christ. Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.

Prayer:

  1. Oh Lord, fire up my spirit man with needed courage to fight my battle in Jesus’ name.

  2. Anything standing in my way to a breakthrough, die in Jesus’ name.

  3. Goliath of my father’s and mother’s house, l draw out my sword, perish in Jesus’ name.

  4. Enough of the threat of the enemy, l silence you forever in Jesus’ name.

  5. Every voice preventing me from progress, be silenced forever in Jesus’ name.
