Today’s Reading:
Romans 8:7-20
In the above scripture, which a lot of people find confusing, and sometimes difficult to understand, Apostle Paul is trying to explain the Conflict between law and sin. He explained that the coming of the law awakened the sinful nature in man which had been latent. The coming of the law created an awareness of sin. The law did not prevent man from sinning, in fact, the law, as it were, energised sin in man. He argued that the law is not sin, rather it is the sinful nature in man that has created an awareness in the propensity to commit sin.
For example, during the military administration of Gen. Buhari in 1984/85, there was a decree of death sentence for cocaine trafficking. Until that time, not many people knew anything about cocaine trafficking. However, with that decree, there was a boom in cocaine trade. The bottom line of all these is that it is the Blood of Jesus that can wash away our sinful nature. If you are born again, and you are still easily overcome by sinful lusts, you need to do a re- assessment of your salvation experience so that you are not destroyed by the law of sin and death (Rom. 8:2).
Every true born-again child of God starts operating in the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus. This is the Spirit (Holy Spirit) that helps us to acquire the nature of Christ. It is with this you can confidently say you are a child of God and partake of the heavenly blessings that accompany salvation.
