Matthew 11:28-30

From Scripture and from history, we find that in times of difficulty and great distress, God raises people to liberate, console, reassure and strengthen His people. He did it by calling Moses, a man who felt unwanted, unloved and cast out and sent him back to where he came from so that he would liberate God’s people from slavery. If I did not know better, I would think that those who are at the helm of affairs in our country are trying to drive us like slaves. The cost of living is rising by the day just as the earning and purchasing power is falling faster than gravity. We are not just staring down the barrel of a gun. It is not a hopeless situation. We know that there is light at the end of every tunnel. And that light comes with the people that God raises from this darkness.

God singles people out for leadership. He raises prophets to speak out as His mouthpiece in an oppressive era. And it is true, God’s word liberates. It does so when it fills the hearts, minds and spirits of persons who are disposed to God. So that they begin to raise their voices in a way that stirs change within the hearts of people, within the hearts of leaders and the collective consciousness of people. Change is inevitable when we cooperate with God's grace which is mightier than any sword. Even more importantly, the hearts of kings are in God's hands and they cannot resist His power (Proverbs 21:1).

The easy way out is to run away just as Moses did when he ran to Midian. The easy way out is to plot a personal plan for your preservation. But the way that always proves to be more effective is when people rise on the shoulders of grace and hope and speak truth to power. I pray that we will find the courage to stand against all that is evil, to speak against it and chart a new course by our way of life, by the excellence of our work, by the preservation and care of our families, by our mentality which shuns all that is evil and embraces all that is good, true and beautiful, so that we can become the change that we seek.

We should all begin to think differently about our situation and find a way forward. Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). The rest that God gives us is the knowledge that we can do something to change the situation. God is "I Am who I Am" and we stand on His authority. Use the grace which God so generously pours out on you. Let it flow through you. Let it change your heart and use you to transform our world.

Prayer:

  1. God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory.

  2. Awake, psaltery and harp; I will awake early.

  3. I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people; and I will sing praises unto thee among the nations.

  4. For thy mercy is great above the heavens, and thy truth reaches unto the clouds.

  5. May God use me to transform my immediate situation and (if it is His will) change the larger situation of our world for the better, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.

  6. Lord increase Your wisdom, Your knowledge, Your understanding, Your revelation, discernment and insight within me all the days of my life, in Jesus' name.

  7. That I may know Christ, and the power of His resurrection, in Jesus' name.

  8. Father, in Your mercy and love, give us a genuine Christian home, where there is no deceit; where the Bible is loved and taught in our generation, in Jesus' name.

  9. Lord fill the missing gap in Your Church and let the Gospel be preached in love and unity of purpose, in Jesus' name.

  10. Lord, bless our nation with Your love and the reverent fear of You, in Jesus' name. Amen.
