At the 1995 World Athletics Championships, a man named Jonathan Edwards jumped over the 18-metre mark. Up until that time, the maximum length for triple jumps had been set at 18 metres because no one had ever jumped that far. Jonathan jumped 18m 29cm and has held that record for almost 30 years. As fascinating as this sounds, it can still be broken. But there is one claim or record that will never be broken:
‘I am the living bread which has come down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is my flesh, for the life of the world’ (John 6:51-52). Nothing will ever replace the power and potency of the Eucharist which is the REAL, TRUE AND SUBSTANTIAL presence of Jesus Christ in the world today.
What are the benefits of a relationship with Jesus in the Eucharist?
The Eucharist fills us with the warmth of God’s love, causing us to love God in all things and above all things.
The Eucharist is Jesus, the source of all wisdom. Those who receive Him become truly wise; knowing and loving what is good and fleeing from evil.
Jesus in the Eucharist helps us set our priorities right; a happy single life of service, a married life of faithful commitment and a consecrated life of self-sacrifice.
Our weaknesses, insecurities and complaints are healed when we faithfully receive and adore Jesus in the Eucharist.
Alcohol, drugs, sex and the craze for money are desperate attempts to fill up a God-sized space in your heart which Jesus alone can fill and He awaits you in the Eucharist.
The Eucharist is a cure for confusion and worries about your purpose and future. Jesus who is the same yesterday, today and forever will point you in the direction of your eternal purpose if you ask Him.
A faithful reception of the Eucharist is the most potent cure for any form of addiction, trauma and confusion.
What is the best way to approach Him?
Repent and confess your sins and live every day as though it were your last.
Be grateful to God for what you have and pray for His will to be done in your life.
Do not use drugs, alcohol and pleasure to fill the emptiness you feel. Pray for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit daily (“Come, Holy Spirit, fill my heart and enkindle in me the fire of your love…”).
Seek spiritual counselling regularly, so that you “walk in the way of insight” (Proverbs 9:6).
New Devotion Alert — Celebrate the Mass, receive Communion and spend time in Adoration.
Take the Psalmists advice: stop lying, speak well of others, be good, pursue peace with everyone.
Have an attitude of gratitude —if you are grateful for something, you will always find an open door.
JUDE-MARY OWOH
To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”
If you said the prayer, Congratulations! Prayerfully look for a living church and report to the resident reverend, pastor or priest.
Prayer:
Lord, feed me with your Body and Blood.
Lord, fill me with Your Holy Spirit.
Lord, deliver me from addiction to alcohol, drugs and false pleasures.
Lord, help me to set my priorities right.
Lord, teach me wisdom and gratitude.
Lord, sustain me by the power in Your Word.
Lord, free my mind of worries and pain. Amen.
May Jesus in the Eucharist heal, strengthen and fill You with grace and divine wisdom.
