Luke 15:1-3,11-32

There is a hidden gem in the Parable of the Prodigal Son. Understanding this gem will shed some light on the dark corners of your relationship with God. Shall we?
Five ways we are like the prodigal son:
We take God’s grace for granted.
We want the blessings but not the responsibility.
We mistake bondage for freedom.
We stay far away from God because we love our vices.
Only trauma, pain and challenges can reset our brains.
Five ways we are like the elder son:
We stay with God out of fear and not out of love.
We harbour ill feelings when we see others who are not religious, doing well.
We judge people before we learn about them.
We are self-entitled and sad.
Our hearts are far from God, even when we speak His name.
Five ways we can imitate the Loving Father:
He gives us the freedom to choose evil and experience its consequences without being overprotective.
He blessed His Son even when all the latter wanted was his inheritance.
He forgave his son ever before he left home.
He restored him when he came back to his senses.
He reassured the older son of his undying love and inheritance.
Our scripture readings today, exposes the heart of God and what we should look like when we claim our relationship with Him:
“What god can compare with you: taking fault away, pardoning crime, not cherishing anger forever but delighting in showing mercy? Once more have pity on us, tread down our faults, to the bottom of the sea throw all our sins.” (Micah 7:18-20).
“It is he (God) who forgives all your guilt, who heals every one of your ills, who redeems your life from the grave, who crowns you with love and compassion. His wrath will come to an end; he will not be angry forever. He does not treat us according to our sins nor repay us according to our faults” (Psalm 103:4,9-10).
God’s love is the best of the best and we can only make progress in it if we claim our place as His children—progress daily to perfection (His word says, "Be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect," Matthew 5:48). Will you go on offending a God who loves you so much?
Task: Prayerfully read and meditate on Psalm 103.

To surrender your life to Christ, say this prayer aloud. “Father, I acknowledge my sin against You. I repent and ask for forgiveness, in the name of Jesus. I surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, take control of my heart and lead me in Your path of righteousness. Thank you, Lord.”
If you said the prayer, Congratulations! You are welcome into the body of Christ. Prayerfully look for a living church and meet the resident reverend, pastor or priest.
Prayer:
Lord, give me the grace to love like you, to forgive like you, to serve you without fear or bitterness but to experience the freedom and peace that comes from claiming you as God over my life and all that concerns me, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
God's love is the best of the best. Let us sit at his feet as he teaches us the secret to true love and guide us to implement it in our lives. Lord Jesus, be our love. Amen.
