BEAUTIFUL YET UGLY

Today’s Reading:

Acts 3:1-10

Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.” (v. 6)

One of the most terrible things that could happen to anyone is to be living in the midst of plenty yet suffering. How could you explain an individual holding gold and never knew he's holding money? The man was at the beautiful gate of the temple for that matter yet his situation was ugly. The situation he was passing through swallowed his name. No one knew his name, if anyone wanted to describe him; they would say that crippled man, what a mesmerized situation. He was born crippled, that's another challenge. The mother too wasn't happy having such a child. His birth wasn't palatable yet God had a plan for him. Another challenge of his was he needed people to carry him to the temple gate every morning. If those people were not available then his means of livelihood would be truncated for the day.

His means of livelihood was begging. He was at the mercy of people. I wondered how much he would realize on daily basis. He kept on doing the same thing yet his situation never changed for good. Some would even give him bad currency or money they have prayed on just to send away evil from their lives. His situation reduced him to an unfavourable lifestyle.

But one day, God of the beautiful temple visited his ugly situation. He went there as usual but something unusual happened. His shame became fame and his disability became ability. Are you in a dilemma, trouble or pathetic situation? Has your problem remained insurmountable? Then God who visited the man who was ugly but kept begging at the beautiful gate is much available to handle your case. He has done it before and he will do it again and again. Let's approach His throne of mercy now as we pray!

JAMES ALADE
