Today’s Reading:
Deuteronomy 31:1-13
“And Moses called unto Joshua and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou must go with this people unto the land which the Lord hath sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to inherit it.” (v. 7)
Courage is not the absence of fear. It is acting in spite of it - Mark Twain. Courageous people are not those who have never been fearful before, but they see the need to rise above their fears. Fear has been defined using it as an acronym meaning False Evidence Appearing Real. Most of the things we fear never happen. It takes courageous men to achieve greatness. When courage is absent, fear takes over. It takes courage to pursue when others have given up. The difference between quitters and winners lie in the possession of courage. Courage makes a child of God to silence the words of the devil and believe God wholeheartedly.
In the scripture we are considering, Moses was about rounding off his ministry and there's need for a successor. The 'shoe' of Moses was so big that it took courage on the part of Joshua to wear it. I see fear in the heart of Joshua possibly fear of how to lead difficult Israelites. He has been Moses' assistant for some years, and he has seen how things were being done. He was part of the twelve spies sent to search out Canaan (Numbers 13-14). He was with Moses on the mountain with God when the people requested for a god and Aaron made a golden calf for them. These and many more did Joshua witness. Indeed, all these are enough to make Joshua afraid greatly because uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. For Joshua to take up the assignment, he needs to be courageous.
In achieving great things for God, one needs to be courageous. Courage is a virtue needed in the battles of life. It takes courage to silence negative voices and echo positive words from God. Is there a specific vision God has given and you are afraid of starting? You need courage to move on. Have you given up on the assignment heaven gave you? Receive courage today in Jesus name
