Today’s Reading:
Matthew 13:24-30 (Ephesians 5:14)
“Therefore, He says: ‘Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.” (Ephesians 5:14)

This is one of Jesus’ parable as recorded in the gospel according to St. Matthew, but why is Jesus addressing the people with parables?
Psalm 78:2 "I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old”: and Mark 4:12 – “That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; Lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them."
The parable has four items for consideration:
A man who sowed good seed is Jesus Christ the Lord of the field and those he has called or gifted, Ephesians 4:11 "And he gave some, apostles, and some, prophets; and some, Evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;" to sow the good seeds and preach the truth.
The field is the world and in this parable the world is the field of Jesus where he came to sow good seeds.
While the good seeds are the children of the kingdom, true saints, sincerely faithful and obedient to Jesus Christ the great king. The seed is scattered and so are the saints dispersed here and there, from which fruit is expected (i.e. repentance, obedience, love, honour and service to God in faith)
And the tares(bad seed) are the children of the wicked one who possess these following characters: lying, unbelieving, hypocrisy, murderers.
Also note that it was until men slept that the enemy began his wicked activities, even an hymn says
Christian's seek not yet repose
Cast thy dreams of ease away
Thou art in the midst of foes
watch and pray.
The tare in the field of this world have their assignments spelt out as follows; they do no good and are unprofitable in themselves but hurt the good seeds, by temptation and persecution. They are weeds in the garden by contesting, depriving, and hindering the good seeds of rain, sunshine and nutrients as their agenda is spelt out in John 10:10a "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:"
Satan explores all opportunities and take advantage when saints, apostles, prophets and pastors are distracted or are off guard. Your life, marriage, family, children, congregation could be the targeted field to sow tare( James 4:7 " Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
OLUWOLE OTEMADE
Prayer:
Thank you my redeemer that you have sent your words of reawakening to come out of slumber.
Lord help me and keep me focused on things of the kingdom and not be ignorant of the devices of the evil ones trying to plant bad seed into my life, family and ministry.
I confess that I cannot watch over myself, but I serve a God who never sleeps nor slumber. Guard and seal all that is mine with your blood that no weapon or coalition formed against me shall prosper.
I also confess that we as Nigerians have slept, deliver us and uproot all tares that are already in strategic positions to steal, kill and destroy your children and our country in Jesus mighty name.
Every tare planted either previously, presently, or planned for the future , physically or spiritually catch fire and die in Jesus mighty name.
