ALL POWER BELONGS TO GOD

Today’s Reading:

Psalms 62:5-12

“God has spoken once, twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God” (v. 11)

Power means: ability to do anything; authority; rule; influence; control.

In the Reading, David expresses that God by himself spoke to his hearing twice, confirming that Power belongs to Him.

God, who is self-existent, and whose nature and attributes include his eternal power and divinity, manifested them, first through his creation of the world (Rom. 1:20), and from nothing (Heb. 11:3) The extent of the power can be imagined in the fact that, the earth He created is hung on nothing; the waters He holds bound up in his thick clouds, and the cloud is not rent under them (Job 26:7). Jeremiah in Chapter 10:12-13, confirmed that the earth was made by God’s power, and He established the world by his wisdom. Psalm 147:4-5 tell of the greatness of God and his great power, to the extent that He tells the member of stars in the heavens, and calls them all by their names. King Jehoshaphat of Judah in 2 Chr.20:6, acknowledged that in God’s hands are all power and might, so that no one is able to withstand him.

The unlimited power and potential of God are expressed in his name – “Omnipotence”. There is none greater than Him. He has infinite power. Rom. 13:1 says that there is no power but of God, and powers that be are ordained of God.

What benefits are we deriving from God’s Power?

Unlike human beings who hoard, oppress and are arrogant when given some power, God, in his love, has designed it that man shares in his infinite power. As believers, God has given us: the spirit of power, not of fear (2 Tim 1:7); power to tread upon scorpions, serpents and over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall hurt us (Luke 10:19): power to rule over our-selves (Rom 13:1).

From the Reading passage, God was David the Psalmist’s Solid Rock, Salvation and Defence (v.2), his Rock of his strength and refuge (v.7). David was able to confirm God’s power in all these listed areas throughout his life. His victories - as a shepherd boy in the wilderness, over Goliath, over King Saul and the nations at war with Israel when he was King, are testimonies and evidences of God’s power in his life.

In this dispensation, we see the manifestation of God’s power through the Holy Spirit He has given to us, to live in us (2 Cor. 6:9).

What are some secrets for enjoying God’s power?

From the Reading, the Psalmist was able to enjoy God’s divine power through letting his soul wait patiently upon God, trusting in Him at all times, pouring out his heart before Him, submitting to Him, leaning on Him and having confidence in Him. Added to these, we can activate God’s power through our faith, the Word and total reliance on the Holy Spirit within us.
