A DECEITFUL WORSHIPPER

Today’s Reading:

Matthew 2:-8

“And he sent them to Bethlehem saying, Go and search diligently for the child and when you have found him, bring me word that I too may come and worship him. (v. 8)

There are several people who played pivotal roles during the conception and delivery of the Baby Jesus. Some were happy to hear about his birth while some were angry and embittered to hear the news. This means that what is good news to someone may be bad news to another depending on the disposition of an individual. The hosts of heaven were rejoicing, wise men were happy, Mary and Joseph too were happy and filled with the euphoria of a newborn baby while someone was scheming evil.

Herod told the wise men to find out and report back to him so that he would also go and worship him. Herod didn’t speak out about what was in his mind. He was like a white-washed sepulchre. And that can be called deception. For an earthly king to worship another king is an issue. Herod was wondering how another king will be born that commands such respect and honour while he was still on the throne. “Over my dead body” possibly that was the statement of Herod. I can see hypocrisy, rivalry, and deception in the heart of Herod.

The question is, each time you go to church for worship (Though worship is not limited to church alone, it is a full-time activity), are you doing it sincerely and wholeheartedly? Can we actually say you belong to Christ, or you are a family of Herod? If you are jealous about another person’s achievement to the extent that you are not wishing the person well, then Herod’s blood is running in your vein. If you always wish you should be the subject of worship or adoration at every occasion, then your father is Herod. And I wonder if you will go far unless you repent now. The end of Herod was devastating and terrible because he wasn’t happy with the coming of the king of kings, his creator for that matter. Herod was an ignoramus. He didn’t know that the kingdom of the baby was more than the kingdom of this world. Unhealthy rivalries are not needed in the ministry and in the kingdom, live and let others live, that is the beauty of life. Will you repent today from Herodias attitude before it is too late? Talk to God now and repent

JAMES ALADE

Prayer:

  1. I repent of every nature of Herod in my life today, in Jesus name.

  2. Father Lord, search me thoroughly, if there is an attitude of Herod in my heart, let the blood of Jesus cleanse me, in Jesus name

  3. My Father, deliver me from the spirit of bitterness, in Jesus name.

  4. Father Lord, unite Your Church in Your love and let Your plan for Your Church be fulfilled, in Jesus name.

  5. Father, with Your iron rod, break the power of sin, in our nation, and let Your Kingdom come, in Jesus name.
